The integrated VSM shipment process revolves around collecting the information required by VSM in order to provide shipping instructions and transportation labels. These efforts are orchestrated by the VSM Shipment Dashboard, which steps the user through the process.
Shipments may be created within the VSM Dashboard, or through the various means available in Labeling, Shipper and Contract Manager. It collects the container dimensions required by VSM as part of a highly efficient Mil-Std-129 labeling process. Then shipping instructions, transportation labels and documents are retrieved directly from the VSM server.
The Dashboard includes buttons to perform the VSM Operations that would otherwise by accomplished on the VSM website. They do the same thing, only faster and without logging in and navigating the web site. Shipping instructions and other data provided by VSM are pulled into your shipments for using in generating Military Shipment Labels and WAWF DD250s and invoices.
The Shipment Dashboard at right shows an FOB Origin shipment that has already been approved by VSM. The Ship-To and Mark-For DODAACs and addresses, the TCN, VSM Control Number, etc. provided by VSM are displayed. The Parcel Labels (UPS, FedEx, etc), Packing List and DD1387 buttons are enabled, indicating that those are ready to retrieve from VSM for printing. Note that you can use the MIL-Comply DD250 and MSL are valid substitutes for the VSM packing list and DD1387, and are easier to print.
The presence of the Invoice Number indicates that this shipment was created in Shipper, probably by import of an EDI 850 purchase order from DLA, and that the shipment is ready to submit to WAWF for payment. VSM shipments may also be created from imported data provided by other business systems.
There are two ways to reach the VSM Dashboard. Which you choose is simply a matter of how it is licensed and how it fits into your process.
•Comply/Labeling users can access VSM in Labeling in place of the normal labeling process.
•VSM Pro users primarily access VSM through Comply/Shipper because they are also submitting to WAWF. However, VSM Integration licensees may also choose to use Comply/Shipper to access shipments, print labels and perform VSM operations.
The use of the Dashboard is described in the VSM Shipment Dashboard.
