UID Family Tree Report

UID Family Tree Report

UID Expeditor refers to UID end items with embedded items as UID Trees, a nod to the nature of the data and the method in which it is displayed and explored.   The collection of UIDs embedded in an end-item may also be referred to as a UID Family Tree, due to the common use of the terms parent and child UID.

Let's look at a UID family, in this case a model train set that we have built using the [Scan UIDs] feature on the Expeditor Dashboard and then printed with its Print Tree feature.  It shows much of the data that is required for a WAWF shipment and direct submission of embedded UIDs.  The end-item must have a CLIN, a part number and a description (noun/nomenclature).   Not shown is the item serial number.

UID Expeditor can build family trees from Concatenated UIIs and/or scanned Data Matrix UID symbols.  Scanning part marks offers some distinct advantages, including the most direct path from part mark to the data required for shipping or submission of embedded UIDs to the IUID Registry.

The use of Concatenated UIIs eliminates the need for a scanner, and can be collected in several ways, including composing UIIs from serial numbers, part numbers and entity IDs (CAGE codes).    Manual data-entry of UIIs can be combined with scanning of UID symbols.  This may be helpful when access to the part mark or scanners is limited.

The sample depiction of a family tree is from a UID Family Tree Report, which may be printed in UID Expeditor.
