GFP Custody Management provides an interface to the IUID Registry for the purpose of taking custody of Government-Furnished Property (GFP) during the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of IUID-managed items. Formal acquisition of custody is a precursor to returning GFP UID items to the Government via WAWF Reparable Receiving Report transactions. These operations take place on the GFP Management View, shown at right.
GFP items also come into play in during registration of embedded items that are included in end-items being sold to the Government during the new acquisition phase of item life cycle. Such items may be provided for embedding in new acquisition items without a formal gaining of custody. They are transferred back to the Government by a standard WAWF Receiving Report (DD250) or Combo. By contrast, GFP Custody Management involves UID end-items that are (generally) returned to a manufacturer for service.
