Mil-Std-129R requires that container labels for UID-marked parts include:
•the item's assigned serial number in-the-clear
•the UII in a 2D PDF417 symbol, which is captioned "UID Data Includes UIIs"
Labeling includes many formats that satisfy this requirement, identified as being either "Rev R" or "CN4". The latter refers to Revision P - Change Notice 4, which was the Mil-Std-129 release that introduced the use of PDF417 symbols.
When selecting a format to use for a specific container, there are two ways to find acceptable labels. In the Format by Features mechanism in the to select the correct format:
•2D PDF417 - which is Revision R formats, which replaced linear barcodes with the 2D symbol, and is the stated preference of Mil-Std-129.
•Linear Barcodes plus Separate 2D Label
UID container labels use the same rule as for printing serial numbers, in that the item serial numbers are printed on the label unless there are more than five, in which case a Barcoded Serial Number List is required and the serial numbers are replaced by "SER NO UID LIST INSIDE".
