Mil-Std-129 requires that serial numbers of items be listed on container labels, including those of UIDs, which can be far too long to effectively list on labels. When the number of serial numbers exceeds five, a Barcoded Serial Number List is used instead, and the phrase "SERIAL NUMBER LIST INSIDE" substituted in place of the serial numbers on the label. "Copies of the list(s) shall be placed inside and outside a container." [MS-129R 5.4.1.2.1.c.1].
MIL-Comply prompts the user whenever this situation occurs. There are three kinds of lists available to meet specific contract requirements.
•One Serial Number List (SNL) per container
•One SNL per CLIN - combining all containers
•Both of the above
The first choice meets Mil-Std-129 and most contract requirements. A combined list of all serial numbers or UIDs shipped, per line item, is useful for some contracts and for internal documentation.
